Nnamdi Madubuike joins Ravens team activities, nearing return from neck injury
With the start of the 2026 season less than a week away, the Baltimore Ravens have reason to smile.
After an extended absence, Nnamdi Madubuike, their valuable defensive tackle, is nearing a return. Madubuike joined team drills this week for the first time all summer and appears to be progressing toward possibly playing in the Ravens’ Week 1 opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
"He's progressing really well,” Ravens coach Jesse Minter said Thursday, via the team's official site. “He's been in a few team reps and done some things. To his credit, we've wanted this to be a really smart and proactive approach to get him ready to play football after dealing with what he went through, also the surgery that he went through.
"We feel good about where it's at today. It's still a day-to-day process, but we certainly have seen some things that indicate great things ahead for Nnamdi.”

Much of Baltimore’s defensive struggles in 2025 could be traced back to the loss of Madubuike. Once the difference-making defensive tackle departed due to a neck injury that required surgery, the Ravens couldn’t consistently stop the run and their defense lost its teeth.
His status remained the largest question mark regarding the 2026 Ravens, a concern which followed them into camp as Madubuike worked on a prolonged timeline for return. It now seems as if Baltimore might finally be able to answer that persistent query.
“I am as encouraged now as I have ever been about Nnamdi,” general manager Eric DeCosta said Wednesday. “We are very excited when we look at him and what he brings on our defense. He is obviously, in my opinion, one of the best defensive tackles in football, and getting him back has been incredible.”
There’s still reason to be cautious. Madubuike is considered day-to-day for Week 1, and the situation will likely be treated with more delicacy than the average return from injury. But Madubuike is close, and Baltimore knows how significant that is to the club’s outlook.
