Rex Grossman is making a late push to make the Texans' roster: Grossman left Houston's preseason opener after one throw because of a hamstring injury. He returned for the preseason finale Friday night and performed well enough (9 of 16 for 197 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions) to give Texans coach Gary Kubiak some pause as he considers whether Grossman fits behind starter Matt Schaub and backup Dan Orlovsky when the roster is trimmed to 53 players on Saturday.

It has been a frustrating preseason for Bucs rookie QB Josh Freeman: The good news for Freeman is that he threw his first NFL touchdown pass -- a 23-yarder to WR Cortez Hankton in the second quarter. The bad news is that his two interceptions Friday night gave him three on the preseason. Freeman finished his first preseason with 238 passing yards and completed just 45 percent of his throws. The first-round draft pick must continue improving if he ever intends to be the starting quarterback the Bucs' front office envisions he can become.
