Quick Take: Giants smother 49ers

It was over when ...
Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora sacked Trent Dilfer, stripped him of the ball, scooped up the fumble and raced 75 yards for a touchdown (third longest in Giants history). The score gave the Giants a 26-7 lead with just under 13 minutes left in the third quarter, and the way their defense was playing, the game was all but over.

The sack gave Umenyiora his NFL-leading eighth of the season. Defensive ends Michael Strahan and Justin Tuck posted 2½ and 1½ sacks, respectively, to lead New York's defense. Giants running back Brandon Jacobs rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Amani Toomer's touchdown in the first quarter gave him the franchise record for career with 49 (passes Kyle Rote 48).
