The Chargers decided to punt on fourth-and-19 with 2:06 to play. San Diego's idea was to use its remaining two timeouts, get a stop and force a Falcons punt with about a minute left. It did not work out that way as Michael Turner rushed for a first down and Atlanta ran out the remainder of the clock.

Falcons rookie QB Matt Ryan exploited the Chargers' league-worst pass defense to the tune of 207 yards and two touchdowns. More impressive than his statistics was his timing. On all four of Atlanta's scoring drives, Ryan made a key third-down completion.

Key stat
Former LaDainian Tomlinson understudy Michael Turner continued his strong play with Atlanta by rushing for 120 yards. Tomlinson, meanwhile, was held to just 24 yards on 14 carries.
