Wednesday, Pittsburgh coaches announced that linebacker Todd Thomas had left the team.

Thomas apparently has changed his mind and wants to return.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette quoted Doug Biega, who coached Thomas at Beaver Falls (Pa.) High, as saying Thomas had ironed out his differences with the coaching staff and would return.

Thomas reportedly was upset that he was dropped, at least for the time being, to the second team, behind redshirt freshman Mike Caprara.

However, Pittsburgh head coach Paul Chryst did not indicate Thursday that Thomas is officially back on the team. Thomas' status, from the team's perspective, could change shortly, though.

Thomas (6-foot-2, 230 pounds), a junior, had 59 tackles, 1.5 sacks, five pass breakups, one interception and one blocked punt, which he recovered for a touchdown against Louisville, last season.

Thomas has overcome two severe injuries to his left knee. He suffered his first knee injury as a true freshman in 2010. He then was injured again late in the 2011 season.
