'NFL Total Access' recap: Panthers, Lions bring the D

Did you miss Thursday's "NFL Total Access" on NFL Network? Catch up with this recap:

Patriots-Lions reactions

Everyone was dumbfounded at the number of turnovers by the New England Patriots offense. Heath Evans thought New England's offensive line didn't play well at all, and the Lions were constantly pressuring Tom Brady. Darren Sharper thought Detroit's defense looked dominant and Reggie Bush was outstanding in the passing game. Sharper thinks Detroit will be the most explosive passing team in the league. With or without Calvin Johnson, Evans thinks Lions QB Matthew Stafford needs to complete better than 50 percent of his passes.

Panthers-Ravens reactions

Evans thinks Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly deserves to be an All-Pro after his outstanding performance Thursday night. He thinks we saw a side of the Panthers defense that we've never seen before. Sharper thinks there should be some importance attached to this game, as the Panthers looked to gain confidence and momentum heading into the regular season. He added that the Ravens showed some resiliency putting together a scoring drive in the second half. He thinks they will bounce back because they're a veteran team with a great coach.

Shaun Phillips on Broncos

The veteran linebacker told Paul Burmeister the Broncos' defense still will be great without Von Miller, and nothing will change schematically. He thinks in order to play defense you need to have a chip on your shoulder. He added that it's not all about Peyton Manning putting up 30 points a game, as he thinks the defense will help carry the team.

Preseason standouts

Sharper thinks Arizona Cardinals rookie cornerback Tyrann Mathieu has been an outstanding playmaker this preseason. Sharper thinks he contributed all over the field including on special teams. Evans thought Green Bay Packers rookie running back Eddie Lacy was a beast against the St. Louis Rams and will add some serious strength and toughness to the Packers offense.
