Mychal Kendricks unsure of Philadelphia Eagles future

Linebacker Mychal Kendricks admitted Tuesday that he "didn't know what to think" when the Philadelphia Eaglesplaced him on the trade block leading up to the 2015 NFL Draft.

Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Kendricks has yet to discuss a new deal with the Eagles.

After Kiko Alonsowas acquired to pair with defensive leaderDeMeco Ryans on the inside, Kendricks' future became an open question in Philadelphia over the past few months.

Kendricks was asked Tuesday if he was sure he would be on the Eagles' roster when the season opens in three months.

"I don't know," Kendricks replied, via Mark Eckel of NJ Advance Media. "I don't know. I think so.

"I can't control whatever happens here. I like Philly. I'd like to finish where I started. I like it out here. But again whatever happens, happens."

Kendricks, still just 24 years old, is coming off his best season. As one of the NFL's speediest inside linebackers -- capable of rushing the passer and hanging with tight ends and running backs in coverage -- he would seem to be an obvious building block for Billy Davis' defense.

Instead, his future is up in the air.

In addition to Alonso and Ryans, the Eagles drafted Jordan Hicks in the third round last month. Kendricks acknowledges this is the "deepest" and "most talented" group of linebackers he's been around.

The Eagles' offseason moves suggest Kendricks might not be around them much longer.
