The timetable for the return of Robert Griffin III remains etched in soft pencil.
Despite the Redskins quarterback jogging and throwing before Monday night'sloss to the Seahawks, Washington coach Jay Gruden made it clear that RGIII won't be suiting up in the near future.
"I don't envision that any time soon," Gruden told reporters Tuesday, per Liz Clarke of The Washington Post.
Out since Week 2 with a dislocated left ankle, Griffin moved without a protective boot during Monday night's pregame throwing session with Jordan Reed before taking to the sideline to watch Kirk Cousins guide the offense.
He'll continue to watch for now, with Gruden dismissing the notion that Griffin would return to practice sooner than later.
"Maybe we'll get him out here when the time is right," said Gruden, who spoke of getting RGIII onto a treadmill before asking him to do more.Â
The coach added that Griffin would need a week or two of practice before playing.
Asked if Griffin was playing a significant role in helping Cousins during games, Gruden told the room, "We don't need him to help."
"He's trying to offer support. If he sees something, he can recommend it," Gruden said. "Between myself and (offensive coordinator) Sean (McVay) talking to Kirk, I think it's more he's there to pat him on the head and tell him to hang in there."
Not so long ago, that was Cousins' role.
