Jay Ajayi eager to see Ryan Tannehill 'dominate'

Successful football seasons have been sparse in Miami for almost a decade.

The Dolphins haven't made the playoffs since 2008 and even then the team was bounced out in the wild-card round by Baltimore.

Much of Miami's inability to make the postseason is due to the dominance of the New England Patriots. Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi said on Monday's edition of NFL HQ the team is working on changing the tide.

"The Patriots in the past, they've dominated the league. Right now all we can really do is focus on ourselves," Ajayi explained. "Working each day to have a season to do that and so that's basically going to be coming in everyday to work and learning this offense and just preparing ourselves for when we get into conference play. We have to do better than we did in the past. Obviously it hasn't been good enough because we haven't made the playoffs and won our division, so those are definitely goals that we have to achieve but right now we are going to be focusing on just the day to day until we get to those points in the season."

The running back out of Boise State knows that much of the Dolphins' advancement hinges on Ryan Tannehill's play. Thus far, Ajayi is pleased by what he's seen this offseason from the quarterback.

"Definitely just seeing a lot more growth just through this year, you know last year for me I was a rookie so I was still trying to just figure everything out, now just being in the mix, being out there with him in the huddle and everything, it's been really great," Ajayi said. "Seeing how he's been able to work with coach (Adam) Gase and seeing what he's been doing on the line of scrimmage, just being able to make those different calls and things like that, it's been really cool to see and I'm excited to see him blossom and really dominate this year."

Positive team reports are everywhere this time of year. With a new coach and new faces on offense and defense, the Dolphins should hope they don't reach the decade mark without a playoff appearance. The Patriots aren't going anywhere, though.
