Chicago Bears hire Tim Tibesar as linebackers coach

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears have hired former Purdue defensive coordinator Tim Tibesar as their linebackers coach.

The Bears announced the move on Tuesday. Tibesar replaces Bob Babich, who was let go after the season and is now Jacksonville's defensive coordinator.

Tibesar served as Purdue's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach last season after working for three years under new Bears coach Marc Trestman with the CFL's Montreal Alouettes. Tibesar was their linebackers coach for two years before becoming defensive coordinator in 2011.

Purdue's defense allowed just under 416 yards per game last season and ranked 11th in the Big Ten. Tibesar was also Kansas State's defensive coordinator in 2007 and 2008 after running the special teams there for a year. He oversaw a defense that registered 30 sacks in 2007.
