Carson Palmer doesn't know when he will return

Coach Bruce Arianswas optimistic all along that Carson Palmer would play in Week 2, but the quarterback said Sunday that he was never close to suiting up versus the New York Giants.

Palmer suffered a nerve injury in his throwing shoulder last Monday night and isn't sure when he will be able to return.

"They said my shoulder was stretched out and I landed on the nerve, shut the nerve down," Palmer said, via The Arizona Republic. "It's just one of those things you've just got to wait and hope it wakes up. There's no, 'it needs 48 hours. It needs six days, it needs 12 days.' You just don't know."

Backup Drew Stanton was just adequate enough to beat a self-imploding Giants team in a pinch.

With the Week 4 bye on the horizon, the Cardinals could opt to give Palmer an extra week of rest if his nerve doesn't respond in the next few days.

We won't have a good read on Palmer's status until the first injury report of the week is disseminated on Wednesday.
