Bruce Arians: Chris Johnson 'looked extremely sharp'

Chris Johnson still has a splash of gas in the tank.

The veteran running back piled up 45 yards at 4.1 yards per carry in his quest to make Arizona's roster. We expect the Cardinals to keep him around after Johnson showed burst on the ground and through the air, moving the chains on this 10-yard catch and dash in the opening frame:

Johnson showed no visible signs of the hamstring injury that kept him off the field during the preseason, leaving coach Bruce Arians to say, per The Arizona Republic: "I thought Chris looked extremely sharp."

Arians brought Johnson aboard to challenge Andre Ellington and rookie David Johnson for snaps. CJ2K isn't the same runner of old, but he looked healthy on Thursday night.

We'd love to see Ellington used more as a fleet-footed, change-of-pace option in space with Johnson and Johnson handling more of the early-down work. After a tumultuous offseason, CJ2K looks to have a full-time job lined up for 2015.
