Brian Banks accuser ordered to pay school district $2.6 million

The woman who falsely accused Atlanta Falcons linebacker Brian Banks of rape has been ordered to pay the Long Beach Unified School District $2.6 million, the Long Beach Press-Telegram reported.

Banks was a promising football star at Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 2002 when classmate Wanetta Gibson said Banks had raped her on campus. She also sued the school district, saying the school was unsafe.

But Gibson later changed her story, admitting she had made it up. Banks, who had accepted a plea deal and spent five years in prison, got his conviction dismissed.

The ruling against Gibson allows the district to recoup the money through her future wages and property, the Press-Telegram reported.
