The Minnesota Vikings are washing their hands of Jerome Simpson.
The team on Thursday announced the release of the veteran wide receiver after learning that Simpson faces charges of driving on a limited driver's license, possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and open bottle in a motor vehicle from an incident that occurred July 7, per an incident report obtained by NFL Media.
The charges represent the third incident Simpson has faced since 2012. In March of that year, Simpson pleaded guilty to a felony charge resulting from two pounds of marijuana being shipped to his home in Kentucky in September 2011.
Simpson is currently wrapping up a three-game suspension resulting from a DWI last November, but the Vikings -- one day after placing Adrian Peterson on the Exempt/Commissioner's Permission List -- are done handing out chances to the seventh-year pass-catcher.
While Simpson finished second on the team last season with 48 catches and 726 receiving yards, the deep threat's inability to stay on the field is likely to scare plenty of teams away.
