Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy was ruled out of Sunday's 16-13 win over the Giants due to a right hand injury.
McCarthy appeared to suffer the injury after getting strip-sacked by Brian Burns with less than a minute remaining in the first half. Tyler Nubin took McCarthy's fumble to the house to get New York back in the game.
The Vikings QB headed to the locker room as the Giants regained possession and was ruled out when the third quarter began. He scored Minnesota's only TD of the game on a 12-yard run. McCarthy exited the contest after completing nine of 14 passes for 108 yards and an interception.
Max Brosmer took over for the Vikings while holding a 13-10 lead.
Brosmer finished 7-of-9 passing for 52 yards in three second-half drives, leading a 14-play, go-ahead field-goal march in the third quarter.
McCarthy's right hand ailment is the latest injury to sideline him during his two-year career. The Vikings QB missed the entire 2024 season with a knee injury and was sidelined this campaign with an ankle sprain and a concussion.
In nine starts this year, McCarthy has completed 57.3 percent of his passes for 1,450 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 picks.
Minnesota (7-8) finishes the season against Detroit on Christmas Day and Green Bay in Week 18.
