Cruz went to the media last week to express his desire for a deal to be  done by the end of the season. On Monday, the wide receiver told ESPN's Josina Anderson that negotiations are going well.

"I was excited to hear this weekend that contract talks are moving in the right direction," Cruz said. "I heard there was some progress on the structure."

As we noted last week, Cruz represents the best bargain in the NFL. In exchange for $540,000, the Giants get one of the most explosive playmakers in football.

Cruz set a team record last season with 1,536 receiving yards. He has become a fan favorite thanks to his propensity for timely scores and signature salsa dance.

The Giants are too smart to let Cruz hit the market as a restricted free agent. After all, what's more predictable than the massive offer Cruz would receive from the New York Jets if given the chance?
