One of the few legitimate NFL hopefuls on the Tennessee defense, linebacker Curt Maggitt, was expected to play his first game since last November Saturday against Western Kentucky.

It didn't happen.

Maggitt has been recovering from knee surgery to repair a torn ACL, and returned to full-pads action at UT's practices this week. But while UT coach Butch Jones expressed hope that Maggitt would be ready to go on Saturday, he never crossed the sideline for the 2-0 Volunteers. Maggitt (6-foot-4, 240 pounds), a junior, made 30 tackles, including five for losses, last season before a season-ending injury sustained against Missouri.

Maggitt's next chance for a season debut comes in a far tougher test next Saturday at Oregon.
