PHOENIX -- On a night full of mostly predictable award winners, one particular MVP vote stood apart.
Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagnerreceived one MVP vote. There are many amazing things about this. Wagner did not get one Defensive Player of the Year vote, because J.J. Watt was a unanimous choice. But Wagner somehow was more valuable than Watt andAaron Rodgers.
Wagner also only played in 11 games this season. So Wagner missed nearly a third of the season and was still deemed to be more valuable than Rodgers.Â
Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk reported that the vote came from former Colts coach Tony Dungy, who has publicly praised Wagner many times. So the vote wasn't simply an error, which we first suspected.
If nothing else, the Wagner vote means that Kyle Orton's Comeback Player of the Year vote was not the most random thing we saw all night.
