Will a quarterback change occur over the Week 10 bye?
"I think we have to evaluate everything," O'Brien said, via the Houston Chronicle. "... I think we have to look at, as far as what we're doing offensively, we have to look at ... who's playing what, what positions they're playing, how we're getting the ball, how we're playing at every position, including quarterback -- we have to look at all of that."
O'Brien was careful not to single out Fitzpatrick, but a change is needed.
Fitzpatrick has taken too many sacks, struggled with ball placement and hesitated to pull the trigger on tight-window throws that are there to be made.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported a month ago that the Texansplan to give Mallett an audition if the season takes a turn for the worse.
Fitzpatrick is far from a trainwreck. He has kept the team competitive on a week-to-week basis, but he doesn't make his surrounding talent better.
O'Brien owes it to respected players like Andre Johnson and J.J. Watt to put his best team on the field. Judging by Johnson's current frustration level, he wouldn't object to the idea of rolling the dice on Mallett.
