Ryan Mallett tweets he's ready, then later deletes it

Ryan Mallett is ready to lead the Houston Texans at quarterback. Or, wait, is he?

The former Patriot and current Texans backup posted as much on Twitter shortly after Houston's 31-21 loss to the Eagles, saying: "I'm staying focused for when the time comes ... seize the opportunity #justwaiting."

Hours later, that tweet disappeared, per the Houston Chronicle.

Mallett is obviously biding his time. After Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 13 of 27 passes for 203 yards on Sunday -- another managerial effort that didn't truly bring out the best in Houston's receiving corps -- one would have to wonder how long it will be before Bill O'Brien gives Mallett a shot.

On Monday, Mallett sent out another tweet: "Don't misinterpret my last tweet. I'm not calling to be the starter. Frustrations of losing. I play my role. I am a team player first. Always."

With the bye week coming up, it looks like it could be now or never for the 2014 season, at least. Was that tweet a sign of things to come?
