The 0-4 Pittsburgh Steelers have just a 1.2 percent chance of making the playoffs.
Despite the long odds, safety Ryan Clark sees the Steelers making it happen.
"I just believe we can win. That's just the bottom line," Clark said, per the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I think we have the people in this room, the coaches (to win). Also, looking at our schedule, we're not playing world beaters, we're not playing gods. We're playing men."
"We're playing football teams that have vulnerabilities and teams I think we can beat," Clark said. "That's five division opponents left, so it's in our own hands. I think we can win those games, and I think we will."
This situation is similar to what we pointed out when New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle suggested his team would go undefeated the rest of the season. While they reside in a winnable division, there are troubling aspects to the Steelers' play that suggests it won't be an easy turnaround.
The offensive line has struggled mightily in both the run and pass game, while the defense isn't creating turnovers or getting pressure on quarterbacks.
We'd use the "what is he supposed to say?" argument to explain Clark's comments, but we'll let his teammate do that instead:
"That's how you've got to think," Ike Taylor said. "Are we going to walk around with our heads down and feel (bad)? I don't feel like that. If he says that, I'm a co-signer."
