Robert Mathis ruled out for Colts vs. Bills

Colts veteran pass rusher Robert Mathis was already viewed as questionable heading into the season opener against the Bills.

On Sunday, he was ruled out altogether.

The 34-year-old, who underwent a brutal Achilles surgery this offseason and a slew of ancillary procedures, was pushing as hard as he could to get back for the first game of 2015.

Instead, the Colts will have to wait one more week for their top defensive threat to take the field.

Everyone understood that Mathis' rehab would take much longer than initially expected and the coaching staff was doing everything they could to prevent him from rushing back. That being said, Mathis isn't an easy person to keep off the field.

Erik Walden and Trent Cole will need to pick up the slack this week as they prepare for an experienced mobile quarterback with very limited film to study in Tyrod Taylor.
