Rex Ryan can't explain Rob Ryan's lack of interviews

Rob Ryan was the architect of a New Orleans Saints defense that went from historic laughingstock to one of the league's stingiest in one season.

Drew Brees became the first quarterback in NFL history with three consecutive 5,000-yard seasons. Was it the best performance for a quarterback in 2013?

Ryan received plenty of praise for his efforts, but hasn't received a single interview for a head-coaching job in a year in which there has been no shortage of opportunities.

This reality doesn't sit well with New York Jets coach Rex Ryan, who is baffled his twin brother has received the cold shoulder.

"It was one of, in my opinion, the greatest coaching jobs in the history of the National Football League," Rex Ryan said during a practice at the Senior Bowl, via the New York Post. "You go from 32nd in the league, and they were closer to 33rd in the league than 31st, improve 130-something yards a game and 10 points a game.

"He doesn't get an interview? They had more injuries than any team in the league. He had to make adjustments constantly based on personnel. I just thought it was one of the greatest coaching jobs."

A report surfaced last week that Rob Ryan's shoulder-length silver hair is considered an impediment in advancing his career.

"Maybe that's it." Rex Ryan said. "I told him, 'Dude, how about you go get a haircut? It makes no difference.' I said, 'You can wear the Fu Manchu if you're bald.'

"I can't explain it. Is it the hair? I don't know. I'm trying to get him to get a haircut. Hopefully, this is one of the things that motivates him to do so."

Don't cut your hair, Rob Ryan. To do so would be to kowtow to The Man himself. You are better than that, and we believe in you.
