The Atlanta Falcons moving up ... for Greg Robinson?
If you thought the reports of the Falcons trading for the No. 1 overall pick of the NFL draft to get Jadeveon Clowney were the latest, check the mill one more time. The mammoth Auburn offensive tackle going off the board No. 1 overall isn't exactly a scenario that's moved the needle. But is it altogether far-fetched?
Maybe not.
Add together Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff's offseason mandate to get his team bigger and tougher on the line of scrimmage with the fact that the St. Louis Rams are considered a very strong possibility to draft Robinson at No. 2 overall, and the cbssports.com report makes some sense if Atlanta believes he's worth moving up for.
Dimitroff, for his part, has said he is open to moving up.
But the logic falls a bit short in this way: With the Houston Texans expected to draft Clowney at No. 1 overall, why wouldn't Atlanta trade with the Rams themselves for the No. 2 pick, at presumably a lower price, to get Robinson? The Texans will surely be looking for a king's ransom to move up to No. 1, knowing that the appeal of Clowney is feverish. The Rams, who have publicly toyed with the idea of trading out of the No. 2 spot, could move to No. 6 and potentially pick up Texas A&M offensive tackle Jake Matthews.
