Rams' Jake Long out for season with another ACL tear

Jake Long's season has again been cut short by a serious knee injury.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that an MRI confirmed the St. Louis Rams left tackle tore his ACL in Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, according to a source who has spoken with Long. It is the same ACL that Long tore last season. Coach Jeff Fisherlater confirmed on Monday that the offensive lineman's season is over (as is wideout Brian Quick's).

It's a crushing blow for both the Rams and Long, who signed a four-year, $34 million contract with the team in March 2013. Coming back from his second major knee surgery, Long makes sense as a salary-cap casualty in the offseason.

First-round pick Greg Robinson replaced Long at left tackle on Sunday and will spend the rest of the season there in what amounts to a two-month audition as Austin Davis' blindside protector.

The Rams, meanwhile, have to be asking some hard questions internally now that Long and quarterback Sam Bradfordre-tore their ACLs in the space of two months. The two players are on the books for $22 million in salary this season.
