Quick Take: Lions/49ers

In Brief

» Last meeting:Frank Gore rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown to lead the Niners past the Lions, 31-13, in Week 3 last season.
» Streaks: The 49ers have won 11 of the past 12, and have a 34-27-1 overall series edge, including the playoffs.
» Last week: San Francisco went into Philadelphia and left a 27-13 loser. ... Detroit played tough, but gave up a late touchdown in a 31-24 loss to Arizona.

Keep your eye on ...Alex Smith's closing statement: The final two games will provide Smith one last chance to show the Niners he should remain their starting quarterback. Struggling against the Lions' league-worst pass defense certainly wouldn't help his cause.

Mike Singletary's building of the program: Despite the fact San Francisco will miss the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season, it is making strides under Singletary. A strong finish would give the Niners continued optimism heading into next season.

Calvin Johnson chasing the millennium mark: It could come down to the wire whether or not Johnson is able to get 1,000-yards receiving for the second year in a row. He stands at 802 right now, and needs a big performance against the 49ers to have a chance.
