Quick Take: Giants sack helpless Eagles

It was over when ...
Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was called for an illegal forward pass penalty late in the fourth quarter. The infraction nullified a touchdown pass that would have made it a one-possession game with a little more than two minutes to play. Instead, the Eagles were forced to go for it on fourth down, and McNabb was sacked for the 12th time in the game.

Game balls
Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora terrorized McNabb the entire game, collecting six sacks -- a single-game franchise record. New York's 12 total sacks tied the NFL record held by four other teams. Umenyiora also forced two fumbles.

Key stat
Despite rushing for 114 yards on only 23 carries, a five-yard average, the Eagles still threw the ball 31 times compared to 23 rushes. They averaged a total of 2.5 yards per pass attempt. Additionally, the Eagles were penalized 15 times for 132 yards, hindering any chances they had of making a comeback.

Noteworthy
Though he has hardly practiced in two weeks because of an ankle injury, Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress continues to produce. His 9-yard touchdown catch gave him five for the season, and he has caught at least one in every game.
