This one boils down to coach Rex Ryan going with his guy. While Tuel was a favorite of former Bills coach Doug Marrone, Simms spent the past two seasons under Ryan in New York.
After starting just four games with Gang Green, Simms faces long odds of making a Bills roster with a three-headed quarterback competition underway between Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel. Once presumed to be Cassel's spot to lose, Taylor's name has bubbled up in recent weeks as a legitimate contender for regular-season snaps.
Simms is 19-of-39 passing for 195 yards with a touchdown and a pick over two NFL seasons. The former Tennessee signal-caller is the son of former Giants quarterback Phil Simms and the brother of ex-NFL passer Chris Simms.
As for Tuel, it's fair to wonder if Marrone can convince his current employer, the Jaguars, to take a look.
