Philadelphia Eagles waive Dorial Green-Beckham

Dorial Green-Beckham's stay in Philadelphia is over.

The Eagles announced Friday they cut the receiver. The team made the move after signing backup quarterback Dane Evans to a three-year contract. Green-Beckham cleared waivers Wednesday, according to official NFL transactions.

Green-Beckham's release isn't a shock considering he was buried on the Eagles' depth chart behind Alshon Jeffery, Jordan Matthews, Torrey Smith, Bryce Treggs, Nelson Agholor and rookie Mack Hollins, among others.

The Eagles are the second team in a year to give up on the talented but underperforming DGB. The second-round pick in 2015 was traded last August from the Titans for little-used veteran swing guard Dennis Kelly.

Philadelphia hoped to unlock magic with the talented 6-foot-5 Green-Beckham. The wideout owns an impressive size and speed combination, ideal for today's NFL. Yet he's struggled to learn the playbook, has never grown into an NFL route tree and has played painfully slower than game speed.

After a 36-catch, 392-yard season with two touchdowns, the Eagles admitted DGB was more athlete than pro player by jettisoning him in favor of a camp arm. If Philly's receiver corps wasn't so awful last season, this move might have been made a year ago.

Players as talented as Green-Beckham always seem to get second and third chances. Coaches believe they own the enchanted key to unlock a special player. DGB might get a third chance, but we aren't expecting him to morph magically into a productive receiver.
