Penn State's John Urschel honored by Big Ten

Penn State G John Urschel, one of the most accomplished student-athletes in the nation, has been selected to give the keynote speech at the Big Ten Media Days luncheon July 24 in Chicago.

Urschel, one of the top guards nationally and a first-team all-league pick by league coaches last season, received his undergraduate degree in math in three years, complete with a 4.0 GPA. He earned his Master's degree in math, too, and kept his 4.0 GPA. He now is going for his second Master's, in mathematics education. Urschel already has taught two math classes at Penn State.

We wonder if NCAA president Mark Emmert is paying attention. Given the public-relations beatings the NCAA has taken in the past 18 or so months, you'd think he would trot out student-athletes such as Urschel often to show that it is possible to be a top player and a great student.
