Panthers' DeAngelo Williams (ankle) out vs. Packers

The Carolina Panthers downgraded running back DeAngelo Williams (ankle) to out for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers.

The team announced the move Saturday. Williams had been designated Friday as doubtful for Sunday, making it highly unlikely he would play. Now we know for certain he will not. It will be the third straight game Williams has missed this season and his fifth overall.

The Panthers also announced fellow running back Fozzy Whittaker was declared out.

Jonathan Stewart will get the start for the Panthers in the backfield. The running back has dealt with a knee injury that caused him to miss Carolina's last three games.

With a dearth of running backs available, expect the Panthers to again supplement the ground game with quarterback Cam Newton and the read-option attack.

Rookie receiver Kelvin Benjamin remains questionable and still must pass one more stage of concussion protocol before being cleared to play.
