New York Jets' Santonio Holmes out at least 4 games?

New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes isn't spreading much hope about his injured left foot.

The New York Post reported Monday that Holmes has told friends that he expects to miss at least the first four games of the season. That's more definitive than what he learned in July, when Holmes hinted he might not play at all in 2013, but there's very little good news here for the Jets.

The Jets are painfully thin at receiver. Stephen Hill has shown promise at camp and Clyde Gates gives the Jets speed on the outside, but Gang Green lacks difference-makers at the position. Leaning on Braylon Edwards is dodgy, and hoping Kellen Winslow reverts to his 2007 self borders on delusional. The Jets will struggle to push the ball downfield.

Even when Holmes returns, there's reason to wonder if he'll ever be the same player. Lisfranc injuries are tricky, and Holmes reportedly can't even run or put weight on the foot. Set to earn $7.5 million in guarantees this season, Holmes likely is done with the Jets after this season.
