Muhammad Wilkerson's push for a new contract shows no signs of abating any time soon.
Wilkerson was absent from the start of New York Jets OTAs on Tuesday in Florham Park, as expected.
"We're continuing to have dialogue sporadically," owner Woody Johnson said at the Spring League Meeting, per the New York Post, "but it's got to be something that works for both sides."
In other words, there's no sign of an imminent breakthrough in negotiations.
Wilkerson is due to earn $6.97 million this season after the Jets exercised the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. He lost quite a bit of leverage when the organization selected USC star Leonard Williams at No. 6 overall in the 2015 NFL Draft.
General manager Mike Maccagnan insists he's not shopping Wilkerson, which means the star defensive end will play out his contract in 2015 unless the Jets are overwhelmed by a trade offer.
We'll have a better handle on Wilkerson's intentions if he opts to sit out mandatory minicamp, from June 9-11.
