Mark Sanchez: I 'seriously doubt' I'll be traded

With Sam Bradfordlost for the year, the St. Louis Rams remain a logical candidate to swing a trade for a new quarterback.

After expressing "all the confidence in the world" in Shaun Hill as the team's Week 1 starter, coach Jeff Fisher on Sunday left the door open to acquiring a passer, saying there "may or may not be some quarterbacks that have trade value."

Mark Sanchez makes the most sense, but the Philadelphia Eagles backup "didn't seem so excited" on Monday about the prospect of being dealt, according to CSN Philly's John Gonzalez.

Sitting at his locker, the former New York Jets starter reportedly seemed frustrated while telling scribes that "nobody who would make those decisions has said anything" about a deal.

"I think they would say something or my agent would say something," Sanchez said. "If those people aren't talking to me about it, I seriously doubt it's happening."

Tom Pelissero of USA TODAY was told there's "no chance" that Sanchez wants to jump ship for the Rams, while Peter King of The MMQB noted that "I feel sure (St. Louis) won't pay a ransom for a Mark Sanchez."

It's intriguing that Sanchez would prefer to continue his development under Chip Kelly over joining a team looking for a starter. It tells us the quarterback isn't thrilled with the concept of rejoining play-caller Brian Schottenheimer in St. Louis.

Schotty's bland paint-by-numbers scheme has the opposite effect on quarterbacks compared with Kelly's wide-open, up-tempo attack. Like Nick Foles, Sanchez has seen his numbers skyrocket in Philly, generating a heady passer rating of 112.5 and throwing for 9.1 yards per attempt in August. Sanchez never topped 6.7 yards per throw under Schottenheimer in New York.

Sanchez has transitioned well to the Eagles and seen his perceived value shoot upward in just three preseason tilts. Set to become a free agent in March, it makes sense he'd want to stick around and see how high he can climb by year's end.
