Marcus Mariota runs 4.52 40-yard dash to lead quarterbacks

INDIANAPOLIS -- Marcus Mariota ran a 4.52 40-yard dash Saturday at the NFL Scouting Combine, the top time among quarterbacks, confirming that arguably the best quarterback prospect available in the 2015 NFL Draft is also the speediest.

Jameis Winston? Not so much.

The Florida State quarterback ran a 4.97, and while it was expected that the former Seminoles star would run a slower time than Mariota, Winston didn't figure to rank quite that low. By comparison, the fastest offensive lineman at the combine, Ali Marpet of Hobart College, ran a nearly identical time of 4.98.

Each participant runs twice and is credited with the better of two times. Mariota also turned in a 4.56, and Winston's other timing was a 4.99.

The combine's record for quarterbacks was set in 2006 when Texas A&M's Reggie McNeal ran a 4.35.

UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley turned in a 4.63 40-yard dash, while Auburn's Nick Marshall ran a 4.54.
