NEW YORK -- Hall of Fame coach John Madden has been released from the hospital after undergoing open-heart surgery.
The NFL said Thursday that Madden left a San Francisco hospital on Wednesday and is expected to make a full recovery.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says he recently spoke with Madden, who is "frustrated about being on injured reserve" and is "anxious to return to action soon doing the important work he does for our game."
Madden serves as co-chair of the NFL player safety advisory panel. He is also chair of the coaches subcommittee to the competition committee.
