Kevin White does light running; Maclin strains neck

The Bears were circling Monday, Aug. 10 in their calendars, as it was a benchmark for rookie wide receiver Kevin White.

White, whose shin injury is causing major concerns in Chicago, did some light running after practice today and worked on some receiving drills, according to Zach Zaidman, the team's sideline reporter.

While it's minor progress, it's progress for the dynamic wideout. His real test will come on Tuesday, when soreness and morning-after pain levels are gauged. Receivers coach Mike Groh hopes White can play in the preseason, but isn't sure he'll be able to.

Making up for lost practice time will be a significant hurdle for White to clear, though we've seen situations where incredible talent can negate the pains of a rookie learning curve.

New offensive coordinator Adam Gase certainly hopes so.

Some other injury notes from around the league:

» Chiefs wideout Jeremy Maclin missed practice today, and now we know why:

» Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams suffered a bruised quad, which ended his Monday practice early.

» Eagles cornerback JaCorey Shepherd was diagnosed with an ACL tear after sustaining an injury during Sunday's practice. The sixth-round pick was expected to fill the recently departed via trade Brandon Boykin's role in the slot.

» Steelers kicker Shaun Suisham suffered a torn ACL in the Hall of Fame Game trying to make a tackle on a kickoff. His season is officially over before it ever began.

» Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount's MRI showed no structural damage in his right knee, according to the Boston Herald. Blount was injured in Friday's practice when an offensive lineman was pushed back onto the runner's knee. He ran sprints Monday, though he didn't practice.

» Browns left tackle Joe Thomasgot rolled up on near the end of practice, but Browns coach Mike Pettine doesn't think it is serious.
