Jake Locker misses practice; will Whitehurst start?

Jake Locker could be back in a familiar position on Sunday: On the sideline.

The Tennessee Titans starting quarterback missed practice again Thursday because of his wrist injury. Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt says that Saturday will be a key day in determining Locker's availability, which doesn't sound promising. Starting quarterbacks rarely play after missing a week of practices, especially young, struggling starters like Locker.

The Titans opened the season with an impressively thorough performance in Kansas City, but they haven't been that competitive since. Locker has not looked comfortable in the pocket and his accuracy has been typically scattershot. Sunday's matchup in Indiananpolis promises to be a tough one, especially if backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst gets the call.

Whitehurst aka Clipboard Jesus aka the log cabin wanderer has only started four games in NFL career, all with Seattle. They have not gone well, with a 5.2 yards-per-attempt average. Locker may be struggling, but he's all the Titans really have.
