Jaguars sign Durant

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed rookie linebacker Justin Durant to a contract today. Durant was drafted with the Jaguars' pick in the second round out of Hampton. He was one of the 11 players selected by the Jaguars in the 2007 NFL Draft in April. All of the Jaguars draft picks, except first-rounder Reggie Nelson, have now signed contracts.

Durant, 21, was the 48th overall selection in the draft and was the sixth linebacker drafted in 2007. The 6-1, 232-pounder was the third highest linebacker drafted by the Jaguars behind Kevin Hardy (second pick in 1996) and Daryl Smith (39th pick in 2004). The Florence, South Carolina native became the first player at Hampton to earn All-Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors three times. He started 39 of 43 career games and tallied 353 tackles (185 solo), 47 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks and four interceptions.

The Jaguars' Training Camp will officially begin on Saturday at the practice fields adjacent to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. The morning session begins at 10:15 a.m. and the night session is at 7:00 p.m. both are open to the public.
