Jaguars interviewing Jets assistant coach Schottenheimer

New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is interviewing Friday with the Jacksonville Jaguars for their open head coaching position, according to league sources.

The Jets confirmed Monday during their end-of-year news conference that the Jaguars had asked permission to interview Schottenheimer, but Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum expressed optimism that Schottenheimer would be back in New York for a seventh season. Rex Ryan, however, called it a 50-50 chance and said he believes Schottenheimer will be a head coach at some point in his career.

Two sources with knowledge of the situation told NFL Network's Albert Breer on Thursday that the Jaguars have contacted Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden about their vacancy. The Jags also have been linked to Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski and Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey.
