'Inside Training Camp Live' whispers

» It's a big day on all of our platforms with live coverage on NFL Network through 10 p.m. ET.

» Our first whisper comes from Latrobe, where QB Ben Roethlisberger had a scheduled day off. Mike Tomlin is notoriously friendly to his veteran players, and Big Ben is said to be healthy.

» Tiffany Blackmon joined * Inside Training Camp Live * from Falcons' camp and reported on WR Julio Jones' contract talks. "I don't know where it's at. I don't know when it's going to be done. I'm just here playing ball," Jones told Blackmon.

» Blackmon a told the show that first-round LB Vic Beasley is okay after taking a big hit in practice. A tad bit of a scare. He took a hit but he got right back in the game after being looked at by some trainers, and after practice he downplayed it," Blackmon said. Head coach Dan Quinn credited Beasley for his toughness afterwards.

» NFL Network's resident general manager Charley Casserly was also with the Falcons on Tuesday and liked what he saw from Beasley: "What jumps out to you is his first step explosion off the ball. He also has a quick move to the outside," Casserly wrote, adding that Beasley lined up at DE, where his size (240 pounds) may be a factor.

» Casserly noticed a new culture in Georgia and remarked that head coach Dan Quinn "has brought a lot of Seattle concepts" to the Falcons. Casserly noted a quick practice tempo and added that, like Carroll, "Quinn likes to challenge the players ... with match ups of best versus best to draw out top performances."

» Quinn comes from a defensive background, and while he was an architect of Seattle's "Legion of Boom," it will probably take him "at least another year" to reshape the Atlanta defense, by Casserly's eye.

» Meanwhile, our Steve Mariucci was in Napa at Raiders camp, where he somehow remained upright after Khalil Mack showed off his pass-rushing moves.

» Training Camp time is injury news time. Fresh from Detroit: Haloti Ngata begins camp on the non football injury list. Our Dan Hanzus sees the situation as minor, in all likelihood: "it's certainly possible Ngata could be on the field by the end of the week ... There's no reason to ring any alarm bells, at least not yet," he wrote.

» Tough word out of Baltimore: NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that the Ravens have lost safety Matt Elam for the season to a biceps tear.

» NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport has an update on Bengals DE Michael Johnson, who suffered a knee injury in practice yesterday. Per Rapoport, after an MRI Johnson has been diagnosed with a grade 2 MCL sprain, which comes with a 4-week recovery timetable. The scan revealed no other damage to the knee.

» Another injury situation, this one in Carolina: DE Star Lotulelei was carted off the field this morning. Lotulelei recently had foot surgery and the word is his day was cut short after soreness, as a precaution.

» Marshall Faulk is with the Broncos asking the same questions as every Denver fan. Faulk: "They want to see when they get in the playoffs what happens with Peyton Manning and -- we asked the same questions about John Elway-- is he going to be able to get his team over the hump?" The Broncos are in pads today, but QB2 Brock Osweiler is expected to spell Manning, who has a scheduled day off.

» Victor Cruz begins Giants' training camp as a significant participant in team drills. According to NFL Media's Kimberly Jones -- on location with Andrew Siciliano in East Rutherford -- Cruz told her that after he originally went down with a knee injury in Week 6 of last season, he would not have predicted being able to return in time for camp. "Not only is he on the field, but he kind of looks like the old Victor Cruz," Siciliano added.

» Omar Ruiz reports that 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula is doing his best to keep his team fresh. Tomsula sat Reggie Bush on Saturday, even though the veteran did not ask out of the session. The team is also holding practices later in the day, often after 4 p.m. The early word from camp is that Tomsula has not changed much since his days as the 49ers' defensive line coach, which players appreciate.

» The Eagles haven't put the pads on yet, but James Palmer reports that QB Sam Bradford -- now cleared for all football activities after recovering from a second ACL tear -- is "carrying himself life the starter." Yesterday, Bradford went with the 1s at the team's first practice and "was more agile, easier to move around," according to Palmer.

» In Eagles practice on Monday, Jordan Cameron was Bradford's favorite target, per Palmer. Cameron lingered on the field after practice concluded and continued to work on drills.

» NFL Network's Brian Billick joined Siciliano to break down the Steelers' defense after Dick LeBeau's departure. "Keith Butler has been there a long time so schematically idk if there will be a huge difference between what we saw before and what we'll see now. Let's keep in mind they have thrown some assets at this defense ... they've been building towards this," Billick said, highlighting Bud Dupree, Ryan Shazier, and others. "They don't have to be ranked very high. They have an offense that's going to put points on the board."

» Steve Wyche reported from the lobby of Missouri Western State University, where the Chiefs had to move their first padded practice indoors this morning due to weather concerns. Wyche highlighted an impressive day for first-round CB Marcus Peters, who had three interceptions. Eric Berry was also on the field and continues to inspire his teammates after beating a diagnosis of Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Coach Andy Reid on Berry: "He came back in phenomenal shape ... We're holding him back and gradually giving him and little here and a little there."

NFL Newtork's Willie McGinest, on location at Texans camp, reports that Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett are splitting reps at QB1. "There's really no No. 1 right now. They're trying to figure it out," McGinest said.

» Rookie OL Matt Huffer, in camp with the Falcons, is trying to earn a spot on a 53 man roster. He can also do the worm. We'll see you tomorrow.
