Coach John Fox told reporters Wheaton remained in the hospital after undergoing the procedure at 5 a.m. The wideout's appendix did not rupture, per Fox. The coach did not expound on how long Wheaton would be sidelined.
Here are some other injuries we're tracking on Sunday:
- Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith continues to make progress from a devastating pre-draft knee injury that cost him his rookie season in 2016, NFL Network's Steve Wyche relays from Oxnard.
Smith is practicing in full pads Sunday and will go through some contact drills for a second consecutive day -- the first time he's done so in camp.
There is still no certainty if he will play in preseason games or in the regular season, per Wyche, but he has had no medical setbacks and is clearly making strides.
