The Eagles have kept Carson Wentz tucked away in bubble wrap since the No. 2 overall pick suffered a hairline fracture to his ribs in Philly's preseason opener.
The rookie quarterback remains day-to-day, but coach Doug Pederson told reporters that Wentz will toss the ball Saturday for the first time since enduring a string of brutal hits in last week's debut against the Buccaneers.
"We'll test him with some throwing today," Pederson said, "but I'm not going to rush him back."
Wentz is notched behind Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel on the depth chart, allowing the Eagles to take their time with his recovery. The setback does nothing for his development -- he's missing critical in-game reps -- but the plan all along was to red-shirt the first-rounder.
We view next Saturday's preseason meeting with the Colts as a realistic return date for Wentz, but that will depend on how he responds over the next week.
Other injuries we're tracking on this leisurely/mysterious Saturday:
- Chargers tight end Jeff Cumberland announced on social media that he suffered an Achilles tear Friday during the team's preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. Head coach Mike McCoy confirmed the injury.
McCoy announced rookie guard Donavon Clark has a torn ACL. Both Cumberland and Clark are out for the entire season.
- Doug Pederson noted that Eagles seventh-round linebacker Joe Walker will miss the season after suffering an ACL injury in Thursday night's 17-0 win over the Steelers. As our friends at Rotoworld point out, the loss could prompt Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz to push for the signing of free-agent linebacker Stephen Tulloch.
- Finally some positive news for the Buffalo Bills: Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News noted that left tackle Cordy Glenn has shed his walking boot. The valued bookend was shelved earlier this month with a high ankle sprain. He isn't expected to play in the preseason, but the hope in Bills Land is that Glenn will be ready for Week 1.
- Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he doesn't see quarterback Brett Hundley practicing this week or playing against San Francisco after he sprained his left ankle Thursday.
- Dallas Cowboys linebacker Mark Nzeochastrained his Achilles in their 41-14 win over the Dolphins on Friday.
- Carolina Panthers safety Travell Dixon suffered a chest injury against Tennessee. Fellow safety Trenton Robinson banged up his shoulder in the win. Panthers wide receiver LaRon Byrd left early to undergo concussion evaluation.
- New York Giants wide receiver Dwayne Harris left the game early to undergo X-rays on his knee, which came back negative. However, he will have an MRI Sunday morning. Safety Mykkele Thompson suffered a concussion, the team announced.
Giants receiver Victor Cruz said he "felt great" warming up with his teammates prior to Saturday's game, and the plan is for him to practice on Monday.
- Buffalo Bills running back Mike Gillislee left early against the Giants to be evaluated for a possible concussion.
- Detroit Lions running back Ameer Abdullah (shoulder) wasn't wearing a red jersey at practice Saturday, although coach Jim Caldwell wouldn't say if Abdullah would practice without restrictions this week.
- Indianapolis Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton is nursing a sore hamstring, which he suffered in the team's preseason opener against the Bills, Colts coach Chuck Pagano said Saturday. Pagano added that cornerback Vontae Davis rolled his ankle in Thursday's practice.
Cornerback Patrick Robinson left in the first half against the Ravens with a groin injury. Colts tackle Joe Haeg suffered an ankle injury and didn't return. Lineman Kevin Graf also exited early with an ankle injury.
- Chicago Bears coach John Fox said RB Jeremy Langford's foot is sore after the team's preseason loss to New England. Fox believes Langford's foot was landed on. Wide receiver Eddie Royal (concussion) participated in individual drills, but Fox told reporters he hasn't been cleared for full contact.

- Denver Broncos offensive lineman Darrion Weems left against the 49ers after suffering a concussion. Denver linebacker Corey Nelson also made an early exit after injuring his wrist.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Evan Spencer left early against the Jaguars with a knee injury.
- Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Bradley Marquez suffered a leg injury in the third quarter against the Chiefs and didn't return after being helped off the field. Rams coach Jeff Fisher said Marquez will undergo an MRI.
