Charlie Whitehurst signs with Browns

"Clipboard Jesus" has risen once again.

The Cleveland Browns have signed Charlie Whitehurst. The Browns will mark Whitehurst's fourth team in as many years, as the journeyman made stops in San Diego, Tennessee and Indianapolis from 2013-2015.

With Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown already sidelined for this upcoming Sunday, Cleveland coach Hue Jackson announced Monday that third-round rookie Cody Kessler was expected to get the nod at starting quarterback.

The Browns are set to start their 26th different quarterback since 1999 against the Dolphins, and it would only be fitting if a perennial backup like Whitehurst added his name to that list. Whitehurst last put down his mythical clipboard in favor of starting out a game at quarterback in 2014 with the Titans.
