Chargers LB Denzel Perryman released from custody, will not face weapons violation charges

Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman was released from custody Monday and will not face weapons violation charges after the district attorney declined to pursue them, per Los Angeles Sheriff's Department jail records.

Perryman had been arrested Friday night in Los Angeles following a traffic stop conducted at 9:30 p.m. local time, during which South Los Angeles station deputies discovered five firearms -- including two assault style rifles -- in his vehicle, according the the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh said earlier Monday he had visited Perryman over the weekend at the Inglewood jail, and that the LB was in good spirits and letting the legal process play out.

With the charges dropped, Perryman can resume preparing for the 2025 season with the Chargers, who have their first preseason game against the Saints on Aug. 10.

Perryman has one Pro Bowl appearance in 10 NFL seasons, with 717 tackles, 7.5 sacks and five interceptions in his career. He initially joined the Chargers as a 2015 second-round selection and played for the team through the 2020 season. Following stints with the Raiders and Texans, Perryman returned to the Chargers last season, then re-signed with L.A. at the start of free agency.
