The San Diego Chargers suffered a pair of key injuries to their secondary in Thursday night's 35-21 loss to the Denver Broncos.
At cornerback, rookie Jason Verrett is scheduled to see a specialist next week to check on the severity of his banged-up shoulder, per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. The team on Friday also announced that Jahleel Addae suffered a concussion.
Addae tumbled to the grass after the first hit of the game and appeared to go into convulsions while still standing after another tackle in the third quarter.
The second-year defender finished the game and told reporters Thursday night that he passed the NFL's concussion protocol. The Chargers later said that further testing on Friday diagnosed Addae with a concussion, per The Associated Press.
"Like every player, regardless of what the injury is, you monitor him throughout the game, and that's exactly what they did with Jahleel," coach Mike McCoy said Friday before the team announced the diagnosis. "... From first time he was checked out and throughout the game."
Asked if he saw the hits Addae absorbed against Denver, McCoy said: "I watched the film about three times. And I was at the game. I was watching the game. I was there. I was watching it."
For now, it's unclear when Addae or Verrett will return to San Diego's secondary. The Chargers face the Miami Dolphins in Week 9.
