Cardinals hire Byron Leftwich as quarterbacks coach

Cardinals gunslinger Carson Palmer was drafted No. 1 overall in the 2003 NFL Draft ... just six spots in front of his new quarterbacks coach: Byron Leftwich.

Arizona announced the coaching move Friday. Leftwich served as a coaching intern for the team this past season.

Leftwich was drafted seventh by the Jaguars in 2003. He first connected with Cardinals coach Bruce Arians when he backed up Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh while Arians was the offensive coordinator.

The Cardinals also announced that their former quarterbacks coach, Freddie Kitchens, will shift to running backs this upcoming campaign.
