When the Buffalo Bills signed Jordan Palmer, it looked like he had a chance to win the team's backup quarterback job. He didn't last on the roster for a week.
The team announced that Palmer was among ten players released on Friday. With Thad Lewis also off the roster, it appears that Jeff Tuel will be EJ Manuel's primary backup for the start of the season. It's quite possible that the Bills will add another new quarterback via waivers or trade in the coming days. Late Friday, Ian Rapoport reported that the Bills were set to sign Kyle Orton.Â
The Palmer signing might not be a total wash. Perhaps the Bills learned some things about their Week 1 opponent from Palmer, who spent the offseason with the Chicago Bears.Â
Buffalo also cut punter Brian Moorman. The two-time Pro Bowler has spent 13 seasons in Buffalo, although he was only on the team for half of the 2012 campaign. The most noteworthy other transaction from the team: Tight end Tony Moeaki was placed on injured reserve.
