Broncos sign quarterback Hackney from practice squad

DENVER -- The Denver Broncos signed quarterback Darrell Hackney to their active roster Saturday from the practice squad with starter Jay Cutler recovering from a badly bruised left leg.

Hackney joined the Broncos as a future contract signee on Jan. 2. He completed 10 of 22 passes for 113 yards with one interception during the preseason.

He joined Cleveland as a college free agent in 2006 but spent his rookie season out of the NFL after the Browns waived him.

Cutler practiced this week, but the Broncos have said backup Patrick Ramsey would start against Kansas City on Sunday if Cutler can't go.
