Broncos' Brock Osweiler to start versus Patriots

Brock Osweiler will remain under center for the Denver Broncos for another week.

The team announced Monday that Osweiler will start at quarterback again when Denver meets the New England Patriots in Week 12. Osweiler will start in place of Peyton Manning, who is dealing with a painful case of plantar fasciitis, in addition to a rib injury.

Osweiler made the first start of his career on Sunday, throwing two touchdown passes without an interception in a 17-15 win over the Chicago Bears. The game was played on Osweiler's 25th birthday.

"It was encouraging for a first start in this league," coach Gary Kubiak said of Osweiler's debut. "He's got to feel good about the first step."

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday morning that Manning might not get his job back if Osweiler performs well in what amounts to an in-season audition. When asked Monday if Osweiler could keep the job, Kubiak said the team would take it "week to week."

Kubiak was equally mum when asked if Manning could miss the rest of the season due to injury. The quarterback flew to Charlotte on Monday to get a second opinion on his foot.

"We're day to day, week to week," Kubiak replied.

Kubiak shot down a Sunday report that Manning was already planning to return for a 19th season in 2016. The coach said any rumors Manning is looking beyond the present "are totally false."
